I've had reports of visitors from different cultures who thought they would not adapt in Brazil, or arrived in Porto Alegre with an image similar to other famous cities (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Recife).
Living in Porto Alegre realized that adaptation is not so difficult. Many had the impression that Porto Alegre suffers a European influence, mainly in respect of crops Portuguese, Italian and German.
Once, a Pakistani was very surprised with the townspeople. He thought people used drugs in the streets, parks, anywhere. In fact the native speakers tend to sip an infusion of an herb with diuretic properties. That is, is not addictive.
In Brazil religions coexist in harmony, but there is not much contact with Muslim culture. The Muslim community in Porto Alegre is not very significant.
